HEALTHY MOTHER, HEALTHY BABY ANTENATAL PROGRAMME CONDUCTS AT SLAF CTS DIYATALAWA
An antenatal education programme themed "Healthy Mother, Healthy Baby" was successfully conducted a SLAF Combat Training School Hospital Diyatalawa today (10 August 2026). The initiative, held under the guidance of Commanding Officer, SLAF CTS Diyatalawa, Group Captain Lalitha Sugathadasa, aimed to prepare expectant mothers for pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care and newborn care. Pregnant airwomen serving at SLAF CTS Diyatalawa and SLAF Station Pidurutalagala, participated the programme.

The day commenced with a session on Co-Parenting by Ms. WA Anulawathi, Public Health Midwife, Haputale, emphasising shared parental responsibilities and family support. This was followed by a relaxation and stress management session conducted by Squadron Leader Arosha Rajapakse, Clinical Psychologist, SLAF Hospital CTS Diyatalawa.

Squadron Leader JAAS Wijesinghe, Medical Officer, conducted an interactive session on pregnancy and common complications, addressing myths and concerns of the participants. The programme concluded with an informative talk on antenatal care by Dr. Neomal Abeysekara, Visiting Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, who provided professional guidance on maternal and fetal well-being.

As part of the initiative, participants were provided with nutritious refreshments and gift packs containing essential baby-care products. The "Healthy Mother, Healthy Baby" programme received positive feedback and provided expectant mothers with valuable knowledge and professional support, contributing to a healthier and more confident transition into motherhood.
