SLAF SEVA VANITHA UNIT CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2025 WITH ‘SKILL WINGS’ INITIATIVE FOR EMPOWERMENT

With the theme "All Women & Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment," the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit proudly celebrated International Women's Day 2025 yesterday (14 March 2025), at the Eagles’ Lake Side Banquet and Convention Hall, Attidiya. The event was held under the guidance of the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit, Mr. Krishanthi Edirisinghe bringing together Lady Officers, Airwomen, civil-serving ladies and the spouses of Officers and Airmen for a day of empowerment, education and skill development.

The event featured insightful lectures by renowned professionals, including Ms. Pushpa Ramyani De Zoysa and lawyer Mrs. Sajeewani  Abeykoon, who spoke on key aspects of women's rights, equality and personal empowerment. Additionally, Mrs. Chandhani Bandara conducted an engaging grooming session, offering valuable insights into personal development and self-confidence.

A key highlight of this year’s celebration was the introduction of "Skill Wings," an initiative aimed at enhancing the skills of Sri Lanka Air Force women, enabling them to explore new career opportunities and entrepreneurial ventures. This project offers training programs in various fields such as tailoring, handicrafts, culinary arts, beauty culture and entrepreneurship to empower participants with practical knowledge and financial independence. The Skill Wings initiative was introduced to all attendees, encouraging them to engage in skill-building activities that will open new doors for their professional and personal growth.

Following the sessions, participants enjoyed a series of fun activities, fostering camaraderie and celebrating the strength and resilience of women in the Sri Lanka Air Force community. The event highlighted the Sri Lanka Air Force's commitment to supporting and uplifting women, reinforcing the importance of equality, empowerment and self-sufficiency in both professional and personal spheres.

The Chairperson of Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe graced this occasion as the Chief Guest. Senior Members of Seva Vanitha Unit, Secretary Seva Vanitha, Wing Commander Lilangi Randeni, Lady Officers, Airwomen, Civil-serving ladies, spouses of Officers and Airmen participated for the event.
