Female Para-Troopers Create History
9:46am on Saturday 17th October 2009
The Sri Lanka Air Force(SLAF) skydiving team comprising of 03 Airwomen are scheduled to perform this evening(17 October 2009) at a parachute display at the Sri Lanka Army 60th anniversary celebrations better known as the Army Tattoo. A total of 30 experienced jumpers inclusive of 10 members from the SLAF will skydive from approximately 5000 Ft in which they will open their parachutes manually at 3500 Ft. The significance of this event would be that the individuals have very limited room for error as their landing should be very precise if they are to land at the Keththara stadium.
After 03days of rehearsals the said skydivers will be performing for 05 days starting from today. Apparently this is the first time ever in the country that females are performing a jump of this nature.
