Best Web Awards 2013

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) official website, www.airforce.lk was awarded the Bronze Award in the Government category and Certificate of Appreciation to Web developers in the Best Web Competition 2013. The award was received at a ceremony held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel “Atrium” yesterday evening (14th August 2013).
The ceremony commenced after the singing of the National Anthem and the traditional Lighting of the oil lamp. This was followed by the opening address conducted by the Dr. RB Ekanayake the Chairman, LK Domain Registry. The Chief Guest of the ceremony Dr Prathiba Mahanamahewa, Dean, Faculty of Law, of the Sir John Kothalawala Defence University delivered a speech on Information security and IT Law.
The Awards for the Best Government Website were presented by Mr. Harsha Wijayawardhane the Director LK Domain Registry. In the government category www.parliament.lk (the Parliament of Sri Lanka) received the Silver Award whilst the Bronze Awards were presented to www.airforce.lk (Sri Lanka Air Force) and www.laksala.gov.lk (Sri Lanka Handcrafts). The Gold Award was not awarded this year.
Sqn Ldr Pradeep Maddegoda, Mr. Vajira Kashyapa, Cpl Herath WGC and Cpl Atigala MS from the SLAF Command Media Unit received the Bronze Award on behalf of the SLAF at the award ceremony.
The competition was held from 3rd June to 28th July 2013 in four stages placing the SLAF web site among the top three in the government category. It is also pertinent to note that the SLAF Website was awarded the Silver Award in the Government category in 2012.
The Most Favorite Sri Lankan Website Competition, the Best Web. lk is a unique and innovative competition organized by the ‘LK Domain Registry’. Best Web . lk will be a regular feature in Sri Lanka’s event calendar. It provides an exclusive opportunity to promote and popularize the Sri Lankan websites and showcase the Sri Lankan web identity online. The competition in its fourth year saw better quality and stringent judging. Competition was stiff with over 250 participants registering this year to try and grab the awards for the best Sri Lankan website in nine categories and also for special awards. In the competition SLAF competed alongside some of the most favorite and prominent web sites in Sri Lanka.
Sunil Thalgahagoda Dancing Academy performed a Pooja Dance and series of Cultural items during the ceremony. The ceremony was concluded after the vote of thanks conducted by Prof Gihan Dias the CEO LK Domain Registry. SLAF appreciates the support and trust placed on the website by its readers and assures them of a continued quality service.
