10:18am on Thursday 23rd January 2014
The Air Force Museum at SLAF Base Ratmalana
will remain open on Sundays with effect from 26 January 2014. Due to
high demand from the general public, Commander of the Air Force, Air
Marshal Harsha Abeywickrema, took the decision to keep the museum open
from Tuesday to Sunday from 08.30 am to 5.00 pm. However, as
was the practice previously, the museum will be closed to the public on
Mondays for maintenance and will remain closed on all public
holidays.
The SLAF museum was established in 1993 as the Aircraft Preservation and Storage Unit at the Air Force Base Ratmalana with the intention of preserving history of aviation in Sri Lanka and the history of the Sri Lanka Air Force. In 2009 it was modernized and renamed as the Sri Lanka Air Force Museum. It is the only museum dedicated to aviation and the history of the Sri Lanka Air Force in the Island.
