The weight lifters representing the SLAF secured the 44th national weight lifting championship held on 17 and 18 December 2009, at the Kelaniya University, indoor stadium premises. The Airmen participating at this event managed to establish three national records whilst the only Airwoman to compete also managed to set two new national records in the under 48Kg weight category. Emerging champs of the overall event the SLAF won 05 Gold medals, 03 Silver medals and a scored a total of 34 points, whilst the Army and Navy sports clubs secured second and third places respectively.
