Retirement Benefit Scheme for SLAF

The formal handing over of the first set of
cheques to the beneficiaries of the newly introduced Retirement Benefit
Scheme for SLAF personnel took place this morning(30 December 2014).
This scheme was introduced and implemented on a concept of the Commander and was formally approved on 20 October 2014.
Under this scheme, Officers retiring will receive a sum of Rs. 1,000,000 while retiring Airmen and Airwomen will receive Rs. 750,000 and 500,000 respectively. This constitutes over a two fold increase from the previous benefits paid out to retiring personnel and is expected to be increased further when the programme is reviewed in three years. All personnel will contribute to the scheme for a period of 20-22 years and will be eligible for the benefit on retirement. Any Officer or airman/woman proceeding on premature retirement will receive their contribution plus 5% interest. On the death of a contributor, the contribution plus interest will be paid to the Next of Kin.
The cheques were handed over by the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke to two Officers, 9 SNCO's and 3 JNCO's.
The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Gagan Bulathsinghala, Directors, Officers and Other ranks of the Air Force were also present to witness the event.
