Ranaviru Commemorative Parade 2015

The Ranaviru Commemorative Parade took on a new look this year, comprising three columns viz. the Ceremonial Column, Combat Column and Mechanized Column, representing tri service personnel.
The SLAF’s contribution to the parade consisted of the Guard of Honour and three Columns of the parade. The march past consisted of pilots in flying overalls followed by a column of SLAF personnel from all trades and included the SLAF Regiment Special Forces.
Most of the SLAF flying formations were represented in the Fly past which included one Bell 212, three Bell 412s, four Mi17s, four Y12 passenger transports, two MA 60 Transport aircraft, one C130,one An32b Transport aircraft and two F7 interceptors.Two Kfir Multi Role Jets did a zoom climb past the saluting dais, bringing up the rear of the fly past.
Weapons and munitions utilized by the SLAF and Air defence equipment including guns and Radars were also on parade. Major General Channa Gunathilleke was the overall commander of the parade whilst the SLAF contingent was commanded by Air Commodore Kapila Wanigasooriya, the Base Commander SLAF Base Vavunia. The HQ Element (SLAF) was commanded by Wing Commander Harsha Nananayakkara, Commanding Officer SLAF Station Palaly.
Sky Divers from the three services which included two SLAF female freefallers, guided by jump master Sqaudron Leader Sampath Piyasundara madefree fall jumps at five thousand feet from an SLAF MI 17 to conclude the parade in a colourful manner.
His Excellency the President, Maithripala Sirisena speaking on the occasion paid a glowing tribute the members of the armed forces and added that the government was considering a restructuring of the defense setup to make it better suited for the emerging threats to national security.
Religious dignitaries, former president Madam Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, Hon. Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Hon. Speaker, cabinet ministers, members of parliament, Chief Justice, Secretary to the President, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, Chief of Defence Staff, Tri-Service Commanders, IGP, Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority, members of the diplomatic corps, state officials, senior military officers and a large gathering of distinguished invitees were also present at the occasion.
