Exercise 'Pacific Angel' 18-4 Successfully Concluded at Vavuniya

‘EXERCISE PACIFIC ANGEL’ the joint/combined humanitarian assistance mission sponsored by US Pacific Command (USPACOM) designed to bring humanitarian civic assistance (HCA) and civil-military operations (CMO) to areas in need in the Pacific region conducted from 6 to 20 August 2018 in Vavuniya, Anuradhapura and Sigiriya areas, concluded today (20 August 2018) at Alagalla School,Vavuniya.

The programme mainly focused on providing Primary Health Care, Physical Therapy, Optometry and Dentistry for civil personnel. The appropriate medical treatments provided by a joint team of professional doctors from Pacific air Forces including representatives from Bangladesh Air Force, Maldivian Defence Force, Nepal Army, SLAF Medical/Dental officers and nurses. A team of Nursing Students of Vavuniya Nursing School and the Red Cross participated and supported as the interpreters.

The medical teams commenced their program at Alagalla School at Vavuniya and treated more than 3000 needy patients, in the process sharing knowledge and experiences among the health professionals of represented countries.

The Civil Engineering Programme was focused on renovating of school buildings and uplifting the infrastructure facilities in schools in Vavuniya. This exercise also provided a forum for SLAF civil engineers and technicians to enhance their knowledge, to learn from the expertise and skills of Pacific Air Forces on modern engineering practices in disaster management and renovation.

The closing ceremony was marked by a cultural programme designed to provide the foreign guests with a taste of Sri Lankan culture and tradition presented by the SLAF Dance Troupe, school children and nursing students.
 
Mr. Partha Mazumdar, Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, Chargé d’ Affaires to Sri Lanka and Maldives, Mr. Robert Hilton, Maj. Gen. James Eifert, the Air National Guard Assistant to the Commander Pacific Air Forces, Air Commodore HN Abeysinghe, Base Commander SLAF Base Anuradhapura, Group Captain Lasitha Sumanaweera, Base Commander SLAF Base Vavuniya and many other government officials participated in the ceremony.
