The Air Field Construction Wing at SLAF Base Ratmalana celebrated its 10th anniversary yesterday (20th June 2019).
AFCW, earlier known as RRR Wing was formed to undertake rapid repairs of runways. However, the task was extended to include the construction of buildings and other infrastructure developments as well. In 2012, RRR Wing was entrusted with construction of Iranamadu Runway and subsequently Anuradhapura and Mullaitvu extensions. The nomenclature of the wing was then changed to Air Field Construction Wing on the 20th of June 2013.
The formation day parade was held and thereafter the festivities began with a Cricket tournament at Ratmalana Base Sport Ground. The event was carried out with the participation of all Officers and Airmen. Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana, Air Commodore RS Wickremeratne also graced the event with his presence.
An alms giving was conducted at the Apeksha Hospital, Maharagama to mark the conclusion of formation day events.
