Sri Lanka Air Force ‘The Best Air Force in the World'

Addressing newly commissioned
officers and passed out airmen at SLAF Base Chinabay today, Secretary
defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa stated that the Sri Lanka Air Force is
the best Air Force in the world today as it had proven its self in the
battle to defeat the LTTE. “With limited resources and
hi-tech machines, the Sri Lanka Air Force defeated the LTTE, using
their knowledge, skill, experience and commitment. It is the duty of
the new officers and airmen to carry this pride of victory to the
future unblemished “he
said.
Secretary defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa graced the occasion as the chief guest of the commissioning and wings parade of No: 50 intake officer cadets and passing out parade of No: 136 Regular and No: 96 Volunteer Airmen initial recruit courses, held today at SLAF Base Chinabay, Trincomalee. Sixteen officers, including six pilots, were commissioned at the event while 329 regular and volunteer, airmen passed out. Officer Cadet Dharmasiriwardana WKRPGS received the ‘Sword of honour’ for his exceptional performance during the course of the training.
ACUT Luids DKT was the best all round recruit of the No:136 Regular intake of Airman.
AC2UT Gunawardana USD was the best all round recruit of No:94 Volunteer intake of Airman.
The Commander of the SLAF Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonatilake and a large number of senior and junior officers participated at the event. Parents, family members of the new officers and airmen were a part of the large gathering that witnessed the parade. The personnel passing out also displayed their new skills in foot drill, unarmed combat, and bayonet assault. Three Mi24's of the No 09 Attack Helicopter Squadron and three Mig 27's of the No12 Attack Jet Squadron flew in salute to the Chief Guest and the nation. Finally the paratroopers of the SLAF dropped out of a Mi17 Helicopter carrying the National flag and the SLAF ensign to conclude the event.
