TRADITIONAL FLAG BLESSING CONDUCTS AT “JAYA SRI MAHA BODHI” IN ANURADHAPURA

The Sri Lanka Air Force conducted the traditional Flag Blessing today (10 March 2022) at the sacred Anuradhapura “Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi” premises in line with the 71th Anniversary celebrations. The event was held under the auspices of the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana with the participation of the member of the Air Force Board of Management, Air Commanders, Academy Commandant, Base Commanders, Stations and Formations' Commanding Officers. The Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Charmini Pathirana also participated for the event.
A colourful pageant comprised with flag-bearers accompanied by respective establishment commanders lined up at the Welimaluwa (lower-compound) to proceed to the Udamaluwa (upper compound) for religious performances. Thereafter, all flags representing the Sri Lanka Air Force and all Air Force Establishments were taken to the Udamaluwa for the symbolic invocation of blessings by Maha Sanga. This symbolized the blessing of all personnel of the Sri Lanka Air Force serving around the entire island in various capacities.
Meanwhile, fabrication of an iron chain links fence which surrounds 2.3 Km of the temple premises funded by the Temple and laboured by SLAF was symbolically offered to Maha Sanga by the precedence of Commander of the Air Force at the end of this event.

The event was organized under the supervision of Base Commander SLAF Base Anuradhapura, Air Commodore Amitha Jayamaha and was attended by Officers, Command Master Warrant Officer, Other Rankers and Civilian Staff representing the entire Air Force. The event was conducted with adherence to health guidelines which have been put in place for the prevention of COVID-19.
