“A Sustainable and Adventurous Solution for Efficient Mobility”. In an exciting leap towards sustainable transportation solutions, SLAF Base Ratmalana proudly unveils its latest venture – the “Pedal Buddy” Push Bicycle Project. This groundbreaking initiative aims to revolutionize mobility within the camp as a Welfare Project to reduce the waste of time on the move, which will benefit all serving personnel at the base while embracing eco-friendly practices and promoting a healthier lifestyle.

The main aim of the project is to overcome the distance challenge between the points within the base and has initiated on 16 August 2023 under the guidance of Base Commander, Air Commodore Amal Perera as an eco-friendly project to reduce carbon footprints to the environment. This cost-effective transportation method promotes fitness levels and healthy lifestyles of the service personnel. The push bicycle parking shelters are set up at ITW Junction and Hospital Junction to enable riders to move in between ITW Junction and Hospital Junction.

Furthermore, bicycle shelters are monitored with a CCTV camera to ensure a smooth and secure experience for all riders. Further, rules, regulations, and safety guidelines have been introduced and established in bicycle parking shelters. Initially, 20 bicycles were purchased to operate the “Pedal Buddy” bicycle project. This welfare project is intended to expand between the main guard room to the sub-guard room of the Base. The repair and maintenance will directly be done by the Base and it directly contributes to the success of the Bicycles project and ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for all riders of the Base
