Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) was honored with a Certificate of Recognition by the acting Chairman of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF), Hon. Wajira Abeywardana on 29 August 2023. This recognition was in appreciation of the SLAF's satisfactory level attempt made in the Evaluation Programme of the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), held at the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
The event witnessed the presence of key representatives from the SLAF, including Director General Administration, Air Commodore Manoaj Keppetipola and Director Internal Auditor (Service), Group Captain Ranjith Somathilake.
The Evaluation Programme involved the assessment of 833 government institutions, resulting in the conferment of awards to 15 selected institutions with gold distinctions and 30 institutions with silver distinctions for the year 2019. In the subsequent year, 2020, 15 institutions were recognized with silver awards. This culminated in a total of 90 awards being presented. The ceremony was presided over by the Hon. President.
These awards were given across various categories, encompassing Main Expenditure Units of Government, Government Ministries, Government Departments, District Secretariats, Provincial Council Funds, Provincial Ministries/Departments/Special Expenditure Units, Provincial Authorities, Municipal Councils and Provincial Councils.
The Committee on Public Accounts, a parliamentary body, is tasked with the responsibility of scrutinizing accounts detailing the utilization of funds allocated by parliament for public expenditure. In addition to this primary role, the committee possesses the authority to examine other pertinent accounts presented to Parliament, all while collaborating closely with the Auditor General. This oversight ensures that the allocated funds from Parliament are employed efficiently and effectively for the designated purposes.
Annually, the public accounting system, financial control mechanisms and the performance of state institutions, provincial councils and local government bodies are subject to evaluation. This evaluation process is facilitated by a computer network system developed by the Department of Information Systems and Management of the Parliament and is implemented under the guidance of the Committee on Public Accounts.
Consequently, institutions demonstrating exemplary performance, as determined by the Auditor General's analysis, are recognized and awarded for the achievements.
