INDIAN NAVY'S ADVANCED LIGHT HELICOPTER ARRIVES FOR TRAINING AT SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE

The Indian Navy's Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) arrived at the SLAF Base Katunayake yesterday (19 October 2023) to conduct training for SLAF pilots and Sri Lanka Navy personnel in shipborne helicopter operations. This collaborative training initiative is part of the ongoing cooperation between the Indian and Sri Lankan armed forces.

The primary objectives of this training deployment are to familiarize SLAF pilots with the ALH and provide co-pilot experience. Additionally, the training team will engage in extensive Deck Landing Practice on-board Sri Lanka Navy ships. This practice is crucial in honing the skills required for deck landings, a niche capability that is vital for maritime operations.

The deployment of the indigenous ALH helicopter from the Indian Navy to Sri Lanka is a continuation of the training efforts that began on March 23, 2022. During the previous deployment, SLAF pilots received co-pilot training and SLN personnel received essential deck landing training.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
