STRENGTHENING BILATERAL TIES 4TH SRI LANKA-PAKISTAN DEFENCE DIALOGUE MARKS ANOTHER MILESTONE

In a noteworthy diplomatic engagement, the fourth edition of the Sri Lanka-Pakistan Defence Dialogue unfolded successfully at the Defence Headquarters Complex in Sri Jayawardenepura, Kotte on 3 January 2024. The dialogue, attended by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, that was led by General Kamal Gunaratne (Retired), Secretary to the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka. On the other side, Lieutenant General Hamood Uz Zaman Khan (Retired), the Defence Secretary of Pakistan, spearheaded the visiting delegation during this high-level discourse.

The discussions delved into a comprehensive review of the progress made since the last defence dialogue, with a particular emphasis on resolving outstanding issues. Both nations explored avenues to enhance their cooperation, touching upon various aspects such as increasing training exchange programs, bilateral defence exercises, mutual security concerns, and fostering maritime collaboration. Additionally, there was a concerted focus on the exchange of military technological expertise, signifying a commitment to mutual growth and advancement.

The participation of senior Defence Ministry officials, Sister Services’ Commanders and the Chief of National Intelligence underscored the gravity of the discussions, highlighting the comprehensive and collaborative nature of the bilateral relationship. As both nations continue to navigate the complex geopolitical landscape, the Defence Dialogue serves as a testament to their shared commitment to regional security and prosperity.
