COMMANDER’S INSPECTION OF SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, concluded the Commander’s Inspection at SLAF Base Katunayake today (26 July 2024) after a two-day session.

The Commander reviewed the Commander’s Inspection Parade which was commanded by the Base Commander of SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Vice Marshal Deshapriya Silva and Certificates of Commendation were awarded to two Warrant Officers, one Flight Sergeant, three Sergeants, three Corporals, two Leading Aircraftmen and two civilians during the parade.

The Commander visited all the areas of the Base during the two-day session. Further, the Commander also declared open the Bulk Warehouse Complex at the No. 01 Supply and Maintenance Depot and inspected the newly installed water sprinkle system at the athletic ground, renovated GSQ’s and the renovated Astra Cinema  Hall.

Further, in parallel with the Commander’s Inspection several improvements were completed at the Base, such as the repair of Airmen billet roofs, the repainting the swimming pool, the repair of V2 area apron, the reactivation of the sewage plant, parade square expansion, the motorization of the V1 area gate, Astra cinema ceiling renovation, fuel section road repair, the renovation of ablution blocks, the construction of a shelter for mobile eye theater and the construction of an entrance road to No 10 Fighter Squadron.

Following the inspection, the Commander addressed all rankers of the Base including civilians. During his address, the Commander emphasized that Katunayake Base, being the largest establishment in the SLAF plays a vital role in the SLAF’s operational and administrative matters. Furthermore, he stated that every member must strive to contribute their fullest with unwavering professional excellence, integrity and discipline, in order to ensure the pursuit of excellence in all aspects within the context of a professional Air Force. Finally, the Commander commended the Base Commander and his team for their hard work in preparing the Base to the standard expected at a Commander’s Inspection.
