NO 43 COLOUR WING SLAF BASE KATUNAYAKE CELEBRATES 24TH ANNIVERSARY

No. 43 Colour Wing SLAF Base Katunayake proudly celebrated its 24th anniversary today (05 October 2024) under the patronage of the present Commanding Officer, Wing Commander KMPS Kulathunga. The celebration consisted of the formation day parade, a religious ceremony and a sports event.
No. 43 Colour Wing was initially established in the year 2000 as No. 160 Colour Squadron based at SLAF Base China Bay to protect the president’s colours and to conduct ceremonial duties. Subsequently, No. 160 Colour Squadron expanded its capabilities, strength and functioning as a separate formation. Thereby, No. 160 Colour Squadron reformed as the No. 43 Colour Wing on 02 January 2012 standardizing the drill and ceremonial matters in the SLAF with the main intention of establishing protection and maintenance of President’s Colours, standard and conducting ceremonial functions, including the provisioning of assistance in formulating ceremonial based policies in protecting and preserving SLAF image and pride.
In line with the 24th anniversary of No. 43 Colour Wing, the customary parade was conducted at the Colour Wing premises and followed by an address of the Commanding Officer to Officers, All ranks and Civil Staff in order to appreciate the commendable service rendered to No. 43 Colour Wing to maintain its glory and pride.
Further, he remembered all who have contributed to the success of the No. 43 Colour Wing with deep gratitude and paid tribute to the fallen heroes of No. 43 Colour Wing as well, and also a religious programme was conducted to invoke blessings for all the service personnel and their families. In addition, with the presence of the acting Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayake, Air Commodore Rajinth Jayewardena, a friendly cricket tournament was held at the Regiment Ground, SLAF Base Katunayake.
