Welders are called upon to perform, gas and electrical welding of ferrous & non-ferrous metals. They are employed on performing simple repairs to castings, MT chassis & bodywork. With experience and gain of seniority their skills will be developed to include Metal Inert Gas (MIG) and Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding of aluminum alloys which is the standard welding method of aircraft structures. As with other trades, with a gain of seniority, airmen will move from performing duties in a practical role to one of a supervisory one. Instructional duties in the trade will also need to be undertaken.
QualificationsPasses in 06 Subjects at the G.C.E.(O/L) Examination at not more than two sittings including ordinary passes in Sinhala/ Tamil language, Mathematics and Science(Mathematics II, Science II if an applicant of year 1999/2000). A credit pass for Mathematics/Science is essential.
