“Operations-Air” Officers
handle Air Traffic Controller duties and are placed in charge of ATC
units established in SLAF air bases. They also perform duties as
Fighter Controllers who guide fighter aircraft to their targets using
ground based radars. They are also assigned to command radar Squadrons,
which perform a crucial function in providing air defense to the
island. In the campaign against separatist terrorists, these Officers
have served in the frontlines as Forward Air Controllers coordinating
air strikes in support of Army and Navy units.
Ops
Air Officers undergo approximately two years of Officer Cadet training
which include basic ground combat, basic administration and ATC
training. After been commissioned they would be trained as specialists
in their field locally and overseas. With seniority they can rise in
rank and appointment to be members of the SLAF Board of Directors.
