Sri Lanka Air Force “Haritha Danawwa- Urban and Home Gardening” Project

With the prevailing pandemic situation in the country due to the outbreak of COVID-19 the government has launched “Saubhagya” National Havesting Programme and Cultivation which aims at developing one million home gardens. Which this in mind, the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Sri Lanka Air Force has planned to prepare the Air Force for an impending global food crisis by providing all SLAF personnel with seed packets obtained from the Department of Agriculture.

The Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit together with the Department of Agriculture launched the Sri Lanka Air Force “Haritha Danawwa- Urban and Home Gardening” Project on 10 April 2020. The aim of this project is to create a self-sufficient home economy in Sri Lanka and also to get the younger generations of our country involved in this novel concept of “Saubhagya” National Harvesting Programme.

500 packets of seeds were handed over to the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Colombo, Air Vice Marshal CB Labrooy to distribute among the members of Air Force families to cultivate in their home gardens by Mrs. Mayuri Prabhavi Dias the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Air Force Seva Vanitha Unit. Concurrently, seeds packets have been distributed among all SLAF establishments.

The Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sumangala Dias and Mrs. Mayuri Prabhavi Dias the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit also commenced this Project at the Air House located in Colombo by planting in their own home garden.
