Under the guidance of the Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit organized the “Vesak Bethi Gee Saraniya-2024” today (22 May 2024) at the Independence Square Colombo 07.
The Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, graced this occasion as the Chief Guest.
The event commenced with a “Kavya Darmadeshana” session performed by the Thissamaharame Sumanadamma thero, which was followed by “Naraseeha Gaatha” performed by the Leading Aircraftwoman Anjali Herath.
Guest artists, namely, Mr. Sanuka Wickramasinghe, Mr. Dayan Witharana, Mrs. Charitha Priyadarshani, Mr. Thisara Bandara and Mrs. Christeena Bandara performed with the SLAF Band of the Directorate of Performing Arts. In addition, an invited child, Miss. Oshani Sanjana, who is six years old, showcased her talent during this occasion. She is a student of the “Parakrama Samudraya Vidyalaya” in Polionnaruwa who was earmarked for her unique singing and performance talent displayed during a “Guwan Mithudam” project conducted at this school. Moreover, 35 children from SLAF families joined to perform, with the SLAF Band adding more glamour to the evening.
The Chief of Staff and Members of the Air Force Board of Management along with their ladies, the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenapurakotte, Air Commodore Ruwan Chandima, officers, other rankers and their family members serving at Air Force Headquarters, SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenapurakotte, SLAF Base Katunayake, SLAF Base Ratmalana and SLAF Trade Training School Ekala attended the event.
In addition to the “Vesak Bathi Gee Saraniya”, the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit organized a “Sini Sambal bun and ginger plain tea dansala” in front of the Independence Square premises, along with a vesak lantern display.
