The SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit organized a special programme today (29 July 2024) to donate musical instruments to Labugasthalawa College in Haliela. This commendable initiative was led by the ‘WAYO Band’, led by the renowned musician, Mr. Sangeeth Wijesooriya, who contributed instruments valued at Rs. 500,000.00.
Labugasthalawa College, is an deserved school in the Badulla district, serving approximately 110 students up to the G.C.E Ordinary Level examination. Following a request made by the school's principal during the recent opening ceremony of a new classroom complex by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, made every effort to realize the school's dream of establishing a musical band. Given the school's financial constraints and other challenges, purchasing the necessary musical instruments was beyond their reach. In response, the Seva Vanitha Unit sought the generous support of the WAYO band, who willingly assisted in making the school's dream a reality. Moreover, “Gajamuthu” Food Products (Pvt) Ltd sponsored the lunch of these school children by donating noodles for the Seva Vanitha Unit.
The event was graced by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa along with the Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, as Chief Guests. Mr. Sangeeth Wijesooriya and members of the WAYO band also honoured the occasion with their presence. The programme concluded with a remarkable musical performance by the WAYO, delighting an audience of students, teachers and parents.
