SLAF STATION SRI JAYEWARDENEPURA LEADS RENOVATION OF MENTAL HEALTH WARD, ENHANCING PATIENT CARE AND LIVING CONDITIONS

A significant project was initiated to refurbish the roof and ceiling of Ward No. 02 at the National Institute of Mental Health, home to 20 long-term mental health patients. The initiative for this renovation came from the ward's overseeing physician, highlighting the urgent need due to the deteriorated state of the existing structures.

Guided by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa and supported by the Commanding Officer of SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, Air Commodore Ruwan Chandima, the project began in early March 2024. The renovation was funded by SLAF Station Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, with Nippon Paint Lanka (Pvt) Ltd contributing paint donations to aid in the project's success.

The completion of the renovations was marked by a handover ceremony today (12 August 2024) that was attended by the Chairperson of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, the Commanding Officer of Sri Lanka Air Force Station Sri Jayawardenapura, Air Commodore Ruwan Chandima, the Officer In Charge of the Seva Vanitha Unit, Wing Commander Harshani Katugampola,  the Secretary of the SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Squadron Leader Viludani Yatawara, along with other officers and rankers of the station.

The project not only revitalized a crucial facility but also significantly improved the living conditions of the patients, creating a safer and more comfortable environment for their recovery.
