The Chairperson SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit, Mrs. Enoka Rajapaksa, accompanied by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa, officially declared open the newly constructed Pre-School and Day Care Centre at SLAF Base Ratmalana today (30 December 2024).
The ceremonial proceedings commenced with the unveiling of the commemorative plaque by the Chairperson, following the completion of religious observances. The event was graced by the presence of the Air Force Board of Management, the Base Commander of SLAF Base Ratmalana, Air Commodore Asela Jayasekara, Formation Commanding Officers, officers, the Principal and teachers of the pre-school, as well as pre-school children and their parents.
The newly established facility comprises a Principal’s Office, a Teachers’ Room, four spacious classrooms with a seating capacity for 100 children, and a modern, state-of-the-art auditorium with a total seating capacity of 200. Additionally, the day care centre has the capacity to accommodate 20 children. In a significant development, the pre-school and day care centre are open not only to the children of service personnel but also to external children wishing to enroll, further promoting its inclusive and community-oriented design. The pre-school also features a shrine representing all religions, reflecting the harmonious and inclusive spirit of the facility.
