Pirith Ceremony at SLAF Base Katunayake

An all-night pirith chanting ceremony followed by an almsgiving was held at SLAF Base Katunayake  on  29th  and 30th November 2014 on the guidance of the Base Commander Air Commodore Sudarshana Pathirana for the second consecutive year.

Religious blessings were invoked on the leaders of the country, the Commander of the Air Force and all ranks and their families presently serving in SLAF Base Katunayake, the fallen heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of our motherland and those who died whilst on active service in this Base.

A colorful procession was organized with traditional dances and various other cultural items by Base personnel and their families to accompany the religious relics and the Buddhist monks to the Pirith ceremony. Thereafter alms were offered to fifty Buddhist monks on the following day and  Ata Pirikara and other  important commodities were presented to all bhikkus who attended the ceremony under the patronage of all personnel of the formations and sections of the Base.

The Base Commander, CO’s of the formations, officers and all personnel and their families of the Base participated the event.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
