SLAF RUGBY PINS DOWN ARMY AT RATHMALANA

The Eagles thrashed the Soldiers and clawed out a critical victory scoring 12 points against Army Sports Club at the Air Force Rugby Grounds Rathmalana during the Sri Lanka Rugby XVs Inter-club ‘A’ Division Rugby tournament held yesterday (19 February 2022).

SLAF led during the first half 12-00 with 02 tries and one being successfully converted. Acting Captain Parakrama Rathnayake drew the first triumph during the game with an easy breakthrough try that Gayantha Iddamalgoda successfully converted. Star-struck Anjula Ravidu Hettiarachchi scored the second try within the first half, giving SLAF the well-deserved dominance.

SLAF dominated the 2nd half and kept the pressure on Army SC by not letting them score a single point until the last moment with a lucky breakthrough made by the Army Sports Club’s Sudaraka Dikkumbura, bringing the score at the last whistle 12-05 in favor of the ‘Guardians of the Skies.’

The game was played with strict adherence to COVID-19 guidelines.

The victory against Army SC brings SLAF to the 04th position in the points table with two more games to go in the first round of the Sri Lanka Rugby XVs Inter-club ‘A’ Division Rugby tournament.
