INDUCTION OF THE PRESIDENT SRI LANKA COLLEGE OF MILITARY MEDICINE (SLCOMM) - 2022/2023

The Induction of the president of Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine (SLCOMM) 2022/2023 was held with much pomp and grandeur at the Eagles Lagoon View Banquet & Convention Hall, Katunayake on yesterday (20 February 2022). Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour was Prof. Srinath Chandrasekera MS, FRCS, FEBU Hon, FRCPS, Consultant Urologist and Professor of Surgery Faculty of Medicine, University of Sri Jayawardenapura and immediate past president of the College of Surgeons of Sri Lanka.

The ceremony commenced with the graceful arrival of the Ceremonial Procession. The welcome address was delivered by Brigadier (Dr) PAC Fernando the Incumbent President of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine who highlighted the activities of the college in the past year and its future plans.  The Guest of Honour, Prof. Srinath Chandrasekera, in his oration highlighted the evolution of the Sri Lankan Tri Forces Military Medical Services and ignited the need for interdependence of Military and Civil Medical Fraternities.

The Chief Guest Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, highlighted the tremendous contribution made by the Medical Services of the Tri-Forces during the pandemic situation and wished the college a successful Academic Session in his speech.

The highlight of the evening was the induction of Air Commodore (Dr) Niluka Abeysekara as the 6th President of Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine which was tasked to patron of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine Air Vice Marshal NH Gunarathne (Retd).The presidential oration delivered by the newly elected president of the Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine Air Commodore (Dr) Niluka Abeysekara on the contemporary topic of Sri Lankan Military role in the COVID 19 pandemic.

The Secretary Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine Wing Commander Himali Mendis delivered the vote of thanks on behalf of the President- Sri Lanka College of Military Medicine.The guests were amply entertained by a mesmerizing cultural show performed by the Cultural troupe of Sri Lanka Air Force.

The Ceremony was attended by Chief of Staff of SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Payoe, Director Health Services of SLAF, Air Vice Marshal (Dr) Lalith Jayaweera, Members of the Air Force Board of Management and high ranking dignitaries in both military and civilian sectors.
