7:21pm on Friday 3rd June 2022
As measure for the impending food shortage which is expected due to the existing economic crisis, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana has instructed to implement agriculture programs within SLAF establishments.
In view of this a professional knowledge sharing workshop was conducted by two agriculture professionals Mrs. Kumari Sooriyapperuma and Mr. Rasika Kumarapperuma from the Department of Agriculture - Western Province (Council), at the Mechanical Transport Section hanger. The participants were taught on how to select, grow and harvest appropriate vegetable plants and techniques on manufacturing their own compost manure and organic fertilizers.
Through this effort “The Best Garden”, “Best Urban/Compact Garden Design” and “Best Esthetically Designed Garden” will be contested in the future. The harvested vegetables in the SLAF Base Ratmalana will be purchased to provide a healthy meal at a concessionary price to the living out personnel of the Base through the welfare canteen.
