The World Environment Day is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach and is celebrated by millions of people across the world on 5 June since 1973.

Communities in all over the world contribute this day to make transformative global changes. With escalation of climate to the emergency mode and amidst the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, pollution and waste, the call for action to protect the planet is now become more important than ever. In this juncture, SLAF has been successful in aerial seed bombing which began recently. These seed bombing missions are the attempt of the SLAF to contribute in the reforestation efforts of the government to increase the forest cover and to produce a cleaner and greener Sri Lanka.

The acute food shortage due to the existing economic crisis in the country which is expected in near future, SLAF has made collective actions to meet the critical requirement and also to ensure the theme of this year’s World Environment Day:  “Living sustainably in harmony with nature” under the guidance by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana.

SLAF men and women implemented the “Waga Sangramaya” within SLAF establishments which is affiliated by the SLAF Agriculture Unit in order to elevate the National Food Production drive as a matter of priority by launching many pragmatic remedies. This project has started  to cultivate crops yielding a harvest in short term, increasing the amount of existing arable lands and establish new growing lands in all SLAF establishments.
