NO 3 MARITIME SQUADRON CELEBRATES 4TH ANNIVERSARY

No 3 Maritime Squadron proudly celebrated its 4th anniversary today (11 January 2023) after the reinstatement of the Squadron at SLAF Academy China Bay whilst completing its 26th year of operational service to the nation.
At present, No. 03 Maritime Squadron is equipped with Beech King Air B-200 aircraft and Dornier 228 aircraft. The No. 3 Maritime Squadron is undertaking maritime/ land surveillance and reconnaissance missions, Search and Rescue (SAR), Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR), Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC), Maritime Pollution Monitoring and Control Flying Operations, and related other flying requirements assigned by the AFHQ in order to safeguard the sovereignty of our motherland in line with the SLAF vision, "Ensuring the National Security through Effective Employment of Airpower."
As sequel to the 4th Anniversary of the Squadron, the customary working parade was held with the participation of all the members of the Squadron, which was reviewed by the present Commanding Officer, Group Captain RMCJK Ratnayake. As part of a social responsibility initiative aimed at restoring the eco system, the Squadron distributed saplings among sister formations and also conducted a tree planting programme in academy grounds. Moreover, a cooperative social responsibility project was conducted at the primary school in Abhayapura, Trincomalee, by completely renovating the students' play area, which had been unusable for eight long years. Eventually, a Pirith chanting programme was held in the Squadron premises, which was presided over by the venerable Maha Sangha from Sri Bodhirajaramaya Temple at China Bay, to evoke blessings for the Squadron and the serving personnel, including their families.
