Research and Development Wing celebrated 9th anniversary on 05 August 2024. The Research and Development Wing was established in 2015 at SLAF Base Katunayake with the primary vision of enhancing the research and development capabilities of the SLAF to promote innovation and indigenous development as the primary focus. While assisting all SLAF formations in their Research and Development functions, the formation is currently successfully conducting various research projects to enhance the operational capability of the SLAF.

The celebration of the formation day was marked with a customary working parade, a tree planting programme at the Wing premise, followed by a friendly cricket tournament with the participation of all personnel of this Wing at the SLAF Hospital Ground. Apart from that, in line with the anniversary, a shramadana campaign and an almsgiving were held at the “Lakshmi Children’s Home—Katunayake,” which was held with the contribution of Commanding Officer, all officers and other rankers of the Wing yesterday (06 August 2024).
