The 09th Contingent of Sri Lanka Aviation, in partnership with local authorities, successfully organized a UN Quick Impact Project (QIP) yesterday (07 November 2024) in Bria, Central African Republic, focused on raising awareness about malnutrition. The event featured a Nutrition Awareness Poster Competition, where local schoolchildren were invited to creatively explore ways to combat malnutrition using the resources from their environment.
The theme, ‘How to Fight Malnutrition using Our Environment’ encouraged students to design posters illustrating practical nutrition solutions, such as growing nutritious crops, consuming local fruits and preserving food. This initiative was very relevant, as malnutrition continues to be a significant challenge in the region.
The event was attended by several distinguished guests, including Brig Gen Imtaj Uddin, Sector East Commander, the Prefect of Houte Cotto Prefecture and Mr. Fidele BALENDJI, School Inspector of Houte Cotto Prefecture.
The event concluded with a poster exhibition and award ceremony, where the top five winners received prizes, including cash awards, certificates and gifts. Additionally, all 100 participating children were presented with certificates and small gifts in recognition of their creativity and involvement.
The program also featured musical performances, a science programme and an origami workshop, further enhancing the event’s educational impact.
This initiative successfully raised awareness about nutrition and strengthened community engagement in the fight against malnutrition, reinforcing the United Nations' ongoing commitment to humanitarian efforts in the region.
