SLAF Newly Open Rapid Runway Repair Wing

In order to construct and maintain of all operational platforms (Runways) of SLAF and to make the operational surfaces for its optimal operational efficiency at all time, the Rapid Runway Repair Wing (RRRW) was established on 15th Feb 2009 with 02 Officers and 06 Airmen at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Katunayake as an independent formation.
Within very short period of time, this formation was able to become a highly professional and well equipped formation for the present SLAF requirement. Presently this formation is commanded by Wing Commander KIS De Silva and the strength of the formation has been increased up to 8 Officers and 282 Airmen. In order to assist the existing requirement of SLAF and to carry out the duties of this formation to the best possible efficiency, it was planed to shift this formation to SLAF Base Ratmalana. Accordingly this formation was re-established and the newly constructed RRR Wing was ceremonially opened at SLAF Base Ratmalana by the Director Civil Engineer Air Commodore DC Premarathne on 15th Feb 12.
