Sigiriya Rally Cross 2012

Thanks to the superb organizing by the SLAF Motor Racing Committee, the Commanding Officer and personnel of SLAF Sigirya and members of SLADAR, the 4th consecutive ‘Sigiriya Rally Cross’ which was conducted on 4th March 2012 at the Sri Lanka Air Force Station Sigiriya racing track was a roaring success.
Sigirya Rally Cross is an annual feature of the Sri Lankan Racing calendar which is conducted by the Sri Lanka Air Force in association with the Sri Lanka Association of Racing Drivers and Riders (SLARDAR). This is the One-and-only Tar and Gravel combined road track, which also consists of various obstacles, in the national motor racing arena which tests participants speed and the skill based on their experience and technique.
The event was flagged off with an enthusiastic participation of competitors and amidst a large gathering of spectators which contributed to an enthralling experience for both parties. The participation of Indian riders added an international flavour to the event.
This event was not only one of sportsmanship and entertainment, it had a greater cause. The total collection made by the event will be channelled towards the upliftment of families of the injured and fallen SLAF personnel who can’t be supported through public funds.
The Chairman of Motor Racing in the SLAF Air Commodore Sanjika Wijemanne graced the event as the Chief Guest whilst the Commanding Officer of SLAF Sigiriya Wing Commander Chamindra De Silva, Officers and personnel of the SLAF were also present to witness this last event in Sri Lanka’s Racing calendar.
D. Uhan Rajin Silva was awarded with the Best Rider’s trophy whilst Dinesh Deheregoda was awarded with the Best Driver’s trophy of the Sigiriya Rally Cross 2012.
