Air Force Avurudu Pola - 2012

Air Force Avurudu Pola, an annual fixture organized by the Directorate of Welfare as a part of the SLAF's Sinhala & Hindu New Year Celebrations Programme  was held yesterday, 11 April 2012, at new Sports Ground at Sri Lanka Air Force Base Ratmalana.

As the Chief Guest, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama attended the Avurudu Pola with his spouse Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrama. The Avurudu Pola was launched with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp at 10:15 AM.

A large number of Air Force personnel participated in the Avurudu Pola including members of the Air Force Board of Management, Officers, Airmen and Airwomen along with their family members. Many at hand took advantage of the wide selection of products on sale at concessionary rates from outlets operated by various SLAF Satations Islandwide. Approximately 75 stalls were open with majority operated by SLAF Stations offering products famous in their locality such as rice from Hingurakgoda, Vauniya, Ampara and Morawewa; Kithul Treacle & Juggery from Katukurunda; Wheat Flour & dry fish from China Bay; Grape Wine, Nelli Cordial and Dried-fish from Palaly; Fruits & Vegetable from Diyatalawa and Sigiriya; Sweets from Weerawila; Garments, Fresh meat & Fire works from Katunayake, etc.

Approximately 4,000 personnel and their families attended the Fair.
