SLAF Annual Road Race 2012

Diyatalawa emerged overall champions with 56 points and was awarded the
Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama Challenging Trophy in the Annual Road
Race 2012 whilst SLAF Station Colombo (Point 29) and SLAF Academy
Chinabay (Point 27) secured the second and third places respectively
this morning (20th May 2012).
Over 300 participants inclusive of
Officers, Airmen and women from various age groups representing all Air
Force Bases/Stations/ Units took part at this event that concluded at
the rifle Green Ground, Sri Lanka Air Force Station Colombo.
The road race for the under 35 age groups was flagged off
by the Director Operations Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala opposite
the independence Square. The competitors ran 7 km from independence
Square, Cinnamon Garden Police Station, Campus Ground, In front of
Museum , Liberty Roundabout, Piththala Junction, Gangarama Mawatha,
Nawaloka Junction, Slave Island Color lights, Slave Island police
Station and concluded the race at SLAF Colombo Rifle Green
Grounds.
The road race over 35 age groups men, and the womens road
race was flagged off by Director Welfare Air Vice Marshal WA Silva at
Gamini Hall Junction. The competitors had to cover 2km on the above
route.
The Chief of Staff of the Air Force, Air Vice Marshal
Kolitha Gunatilleke was the Chief Guest and Director
Operations Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala, Directorate of
Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering Air Vice
Marshal RJ Pathirage, Directorate of Administration
Air Commodore JSI Wijemanne, Director Health Services Air Commodore DMS
Karunarathna, Director Training Air Commodore Kishan Yahampath, Director
Welfare Air Vice Marshal WA Silva, Commanding Officer SLAF Station
Colombo Air Commodore KFR Fernando, Chairman SLAF Athletics Air
Commodore Abeysekara, Command Sport Officer Group Captain Ravihansa and
other officers as well as the other ranks were present at the
event.

Overall Champions - Sri Lanka Air Force Diyatalawa - 56 point
2nd Place - Sri Lanka Air Force Colombo - 29 points
3rd Place - Sri Lanka Air Force Academy Chinabay - 27 points
