Api Wenuwen Api Housing Programme 9th Stage Completed

HE the President Mahinda
Rajapaksa handed over the keys to 43 houses built in the Polonnaruwa
District under the 9th stage of the “Api Wenuwen Api housing project for
war heroes” yesterday (26th May 2012) at the Bakamuna Mahasen Maha
Vidyalaya, Elahera.
HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa ceremonially handed over the keys of the newly constructed house to Leading Air Craftsman Ekanayake of the Sri Lanka Air Force, in a simple but colourful ceremony.
The Governor of the North Central Province Karunaratna Divulgane welcomed the distinguished gathering whilst the Minister of Health Maithripala Sirisena also addressed those present. The main address of the day was delivered by the Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weerathunga. The vote of thanks was delivered by Leading Air Craftsman Dissanayake to terminate the function.
Subsequently, HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa presented the keys to another 42 Ranaviru families (Army 28, Navy 07 and Air Force 07) inclusive of household equipments and other gifts. Concurrent to the handing over of the houses, 142 school children out of the 600 students in the primary of the Bakamuna Mahasen Maha Vidyalaya were presented school bags, shoes and required stationery by the President himself.
The secretary of Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Deputy Minister Land and Development Siripala Gamlath, Deputy Minister Social Services Chandrasiri Sooriyarachchi, Member of Parliament Roshan Ranasinghe, Cheif Minister of North Central Province Berty Premalal Dissanayake, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonetileke, the Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, the Navy Commander Vice Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayake, the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Army Major General Daya Rathnayaka, Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Air Force Air Vice Marshal Kolitha Gunethilaka, Commander Eastern Naval of Sri Lanka Navy Rear Admiral Jayantha Kollambage, senior officers and ladies were also present among the distinguished gathering present at the event.
Senior officers of the Armed forces and Police together with a large gathering of parents and residents of the area also attended the event.
This event was organized jointly by the Ministry of Defence and the SLAF. The SLAF commitment was successfully carried out under the direction of the Director of Welfare, Air Vice Marshal Anura Silva assisted by other Directorates of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Officers. The Base Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Base Hingurakgoda Group Captain Udeni Rajapaksha was entrusted the task for all local arrangements.
A special word of appreciation should also be rendered to the senior officers, officers and the other ranks of SLAF Base Hingurakgoda who worked tirelessly to make this event a success.
