SLAF retains Defence Services Indoor Volleyball Championships yet again

The men’s and women’s indoor volleyball teams of the Sri Lanka Air Force retained the Defence Services Indoor Volleyball Championship for the third successive time, at the championship held recently.

In the women’s finals, SLAF got the better of the SL Navy team in a keenly contested encounter. The final score read 3 sets to 2, in favour of the Airwomen. In the men’s finals, SL Navy beat SLAF 3-1, yet the Navy team was disqualified by virtue of fielding a non-eligible player. As a result, SLAF was crowned champions, while the SL Army was awarded the Runners up trophy.

Incidentally, it was the SLAF who won both men’s and women’s volleyball championship in last two Defence Services Games held in 2009 and 2010. Besides, the Beach volleyball players of the SLAF were also able to retain the championship that they won in 2010, during the Defence Services Beach Volleyball Championship 2012.

Air Vice Marshal RJ Pathirage, the Chairman Defence Services Beach Volleyball Committee and SLAF Volleyball Committee graced the finals as the Chief Guest.

Sri Lanka Air Force stands as the sole gallant aerial force in the nation, skillfully projecting airpower over its airspace and supporting the operations of surface entities.
