Air Force Avurudu Pola, an annual event organized by the Directorate of Welfare as a part of the SLAF Sinhala & Hindu New Year Celebrations was held today 11 April 2013 at the ‘Rifle Green’ Sports Ground of SLAF Station Colombo.

The Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrema graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event was launched after the lighting of the traditional oil lamp at 0930 hrs. The Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal KA Gunatilleke, Director Welfare Air Vice Marshal MLK Perera, members of the AFBM, the Commanding Officer SLAF Station Colombo Air Cdre KFR Fernando were present during the opening. Officers, Airmen and Airwomen attended the fair along with their family members and were seen happily purchasing various products offered at concessionary rates at the outlets operated by SLAF establishments from all over the country.

A total of 70 stalls were operated mostly by SLAF establishments offering products famous in their locality viz. rice from Hingurakgoda, Ampara and Morawewa, Kithul Treacle & Juggery from Katukurunda and Koggala, Wheat Flour from China Bay, Prawns from Palali, Vegetables from Diyatalawa and Sigiriya, Garments, Coconut, Nursery plants and Dry Foods from Katunayake and Dry Fish from Palavi.
