Lecture on Institutionalizing Healthier Life Style to SLAF

An awareness lecture on ‘Institutionalizing Healthier Life Style to SLAF was organized for the Officers of AFHQ and SLAF Station Colombo on 13th May 2013 at the AFHQ Auditorium by the Directorate of Health Services. The address was delivered by Dr. Sussie Perera, MBBS, Msc (Com.Med.), MD (Com.Med.) Consultant Community Health Physician, Ministry of Health. The programme was coordinated by Air Cdre PDA Maristella and the following Super Eight Practices were advocated to be practiced within SLAF.
Maintain your Body Mass Index.
Avoid excess salt in food. (1 teaspoon of salt per person per day)
Avoid excess added sugar. (6 teaspoons of sugar per day per person)
At least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity.
Consume 5 servings (types) of vegetables and fruits per day.
Avoid foods with trans fats.
Maintain your blood pressure below 140/90.
The Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal HD Abeywickrama was present for the session as the Chief Guest. The Chairperson of SLAF Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrema, the Chief of Staff Air Vice Marshal KA Gunatilleke, members of the AFBM and a considerable number of officers were also present at the session.
