USAF/SLAF SMEE Programme Concludes at SLAF Base Katunayake

Medical Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE)
programme, a part of Exercise PACIFIC ANGEL which is being conducted
jointly by the US Pacific Air Force and the Sri Lanka Air Force in the
Jaffna peninsula, concludes at SLAF Base Katunayake today (9th August
2013).
The exchange programme, which was conducted parallel to the medical and renovation programmes being conducted in the Jaffna Peninsula, focuses on sharing of knowledge through the exchange of information and was conducted from 5th to 9th August 2013.
Four expert facilitators from the US Pacific Air Force and four facilitators from Sri Lanka Air Force conducted the programme. The programme included facilitating a basic understanding of general aero-medical evacuation principles for rotary and fixed wing aircraft, the unique requirements for in-route care as it relates to stressors of flight and briefings and lessons learned from previous evacuations. The facilitators utilised standardized Defense Institute of Medical Operations (DIMO) curriculum for the course concerning Aerial Patient Movement in Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Response and Military Operations.
Participants of the course included four Pilots, four Loadmasters, four Flight Engineers, twelve Doctors and twenty Nurses of the Sri Lanka Air Force. Apart from the lessons on theoretical aspects they also took part in a practical session which involved a C-130 aircraft and MI 17 helicopter.
The graduation ceremony which is scheduled to be held in the evening of 9th August 2013, will see the Director Operations of the Sri Lanka Air Force Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest.
