The 18th Main Contingent, comprising of 44 SLAF troops scheduled to be deployed in Haiti completed their training at the United Nations Peace Keeping Operations (UNPKO) Training Centre of the Sri Lanka Army in Kukuleganga and passed out on Wednesday (11 September 2013) at Regimental Head Quarters Gemunu Watch, Kuruwita. These SLAF personnel who are from a number of trades in the Air Force will be deployed along with the SL Army and Navy personnel under the UN banner.

They were trained in Traffic Control Operations, Civil Disorder Management, Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration, Cordon and Search Operations, Convoy Operations, Patrolling, Improvised Explosive Device Detection and Defusing.

They were also educated about the United Nations, Its mandate, The Rules of Engagement, Present situation in Haiti, Cultural differences, International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights, Human Resources Management, HIV/AIDS, Sexual Exploitation, UN Log system, UN provost duties, Experienced in Haiti, Creole language and Stress management etc.

Major General Leonard Mark the Security Forces Commander Mullaittive received the salute as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The 18th main contingent is comprised of 58 Officers and 792 Other Ranks from Army, Navy and Air Force.
Wing Commander CJ Godakanda commands the SLAF contingent whilst Squadron Leader HMC Herath and the undermentioned Other Ranks comprise the rest of the SLAF contingent.
