Seva Vanitha Unit of the SLAF Celebrates the World Children’s Day

The Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the SLAF celebrated the World Children’s Day at a Special School for the Deaf located in Beliaththa on 1st October 2013. The event was organized according to an idea of the Chairperson of the SVU Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrama.
The school houses 110 children with hearing and speech disabilities. The event was organized and coordinated by SLAF Unit Weerawila under the guidance of the Commanding Officer of the Unit Gp Capt Dilshan Wasage and Mrs. Mali Wasage the President of the SVU of SLAF Unit Weerawila.
The day’s proceedings commenced with the arrival of the Chairperson of the SVU along with members of the SVU at the school. The children under the direction of the teachers of the school performed a welcome dance and greeted the Chief Guest to the school premises. This was followed by a welcome speech made by the principle of the School Mr. Chandrakumara. The children of the school performed five dance and acting items which, no doubt, warmed the hearts and mind of those present at the event as these children were doing in tune the music despite their disabilities.
Following the performance, Chairperson of the SVU Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrama together with the members of SVU distributed gift packs which included essential item needed by the children. Further the SVU donated cooking utensils for the kitchen at the school and around 150 bed sheets and mosquito nets were distributed amongst the children. Finally the children and the staff of the school were treated to lunch which was prepared by the staff of SLAF Unit Weerawila.
Chairperson of the SVU Mrs. Neelika Abeywickrama and its members along with the SLAF personnel visited the living areas of the children. The expressions on the faces of the children say how much they also enjoyed the visit by the guests.
