Convocation of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University

The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) awarded degrees at the convocation of the Kotalawala Defence University during a fitting ceremony held at BMICH Colombo this evening (29th October 2013).
His Excellency Mahinda Rajapakse the president of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Chancellor of the Kotelawala Defence University General Rohan Daluwatte also took part in conferring the degrees.
Degrees for 194 Graduates were conferment at the General Convocation – 2013. Awarded degrees were included 8 Master Degrees of the KDU Master of Science (Defence Studies) in Management Degree Programme (Army – 2, Navy – 1, Air Force – 5), 58 Master of Science in Defence & Strategic Studies (D&SS) Degree Programme of the Defence Services Command & Staff College – Batalanda (Army – 36, Navy – 9, Air Force – 13),7 Bachelor of Science Degrees of the KDU Bachelor of Science (Defence Studies) in Management Degree Programme ( Navy – 6, Army – 1) and121 Basic Degrees for officers of KDU Intake 27 (Army – 60, Navy – 37, Air Force – 24).
Addressing the gathering HE the President Mahinda Rajapakse stated that, “Newly graduated Officers start their careers in a country where terrorism was comprehensively defeated, but should work hard for the development of the country and national security. It was the duty of all to work towards taking the country to a top position in the world after the liberation of the country we did not forget our war heroes we love them and respect them forever”.

DM Jayaratne the Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Secretary of the Ministry of Defence & Urban Development and Chairman of the Board of Management of KDU Mr. Gotabaya Rajapakse, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Rathnayake, the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, the Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, the Vice Chancellor Major General Milinda Peris, the members of the academic staff of the KDU, special guests, senior officers of the tri Services, the Graduates and their parents participated in this special occasion.
