3:17pm on Wednesday 6th November 2013
The World Standards Day which was held on 14 October 2013 launched the start of the Observance of the World Quality week from the 14 to 20 October 2013 is part of an annual public awareness campaign, promulgated by the United Nations in 1990 to raise international awareness of the important role ‘Quality’ plays in ensuring a nations' prosperity.
The theme of this year’s programme was “International Standards Ensure Positive Change”. International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is concerned that the international community today, has to contend with shifting global markets and also with the need to balance remedies to macro-economic challenges with a meaningful response to climate change. In this complex environment, international standards are powerful tools to lead positive change by detailing specifications that can open up global markets, create enabling business environments, spur economic growth and help mitigate and adapt to climate change. Standards are also applied as tools to help reduce climate change by improving energy efficiency and decreasing waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Standards ensure best practices in renewable energy generation and provide cutting-edge requirements and processes for waste disposal.
The SLAF actively participated in this programme hoisting the “Q” Flag on the World Standards Day which was done on 14 Oct 2013 at 0900 Hrs at all Bases, Units and Stations. The SLAF has moderated the official slogan for this year’s World Quality Day as “Our responsibilities in Pursuit of Excellence”. The purpose of this exercise was to inculcate the message of quality among all concerned thus enhancing the quality culture in the SLAF. Quality awareness programmes were carried out at each Base/ Station/ Unit utilizing CQAI instructors and other qualified personnel.
