Sri Lanka Air Force takes to ‘Speed’ on the water

The Sri Lanka Air Force famous for speed in
the Air took to the waters of the Beira Lake on Sunday, 24th November
2013 when they piloted Formula – 2 Speedboats with precision at the
inaugural ‘F2 Speedboat Challenge – Sri Lanka’ conducted by Lanka
Powerboat Association.
Squadron Leader AAGS Alahakoon and Flying Officer RJM Goonetileke who underwent a short training session with internationally qualified F2 Speedboat drivers from Britain participated in a three lap time-trial with other drivers from the SL Army and SL Navy. Flying Officer RJM Goonetileke emerged as the winner clocking the fastest time on the circuit.

The
Lanka Powerboat Association is in the process of introducing this sport
to Sri Lanka and scouting for talent. Thus, the two Air Force Officers
were among the historical participants at this event and were highly
commended by the British instructors for their precision driving and
discipline on the
circuit.
