SLAF Wins Dialog Champions Football League 2013
SLAF Men’s Football team emerged Champions at the Dialog Champions Football League 2013 this evening (22nd December 2013) at the Vernon Fernando Stadium Defeating Renown Team by 1-0 at the finals.
Leading Air Craft man KCK Lankeshwar managed to score the only goal in the match, which subsequently went on to be the winning goal for the Airman and KCK Lankeshwar adjudged as the most valuable player of the final.
In 2009 both teams played in the final and Renown won off penalties after drawing 2-2 at the final whistle. This was a memorable event for SLAF Football since the SLAF won the Ceylon FA Cup 1985/86 by defeating Renown SC and in 1989 the SLAF won the Golden Jubilee Cup organized by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka to mark its 50th Anniversary.
The Cabinet Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Dr. Rajitha Senaratne graced the finals as the Chief Guest. President of the Football Federation of Sri Lanka Mr. Ranjith Rodrigo, Director Operations of the SLAF Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala, Chairman SLAF Football Air Commodore AWE Wijesuriya and Secretary SLAF Football Group Captain SD Kotage, Commanding Officer SLAF Katukurunda Wing Commander PSN Fernando were also present at the finals. The final was witnessed by more than 400 SLAF Spectators.
