Airmen Bandara Helps SLAF Colombo Win The Inter-Unit Cricket Finals

Leading Air Craftman Bandara went on to bat a remarkable innings of 97
runs as Sri Lanka Air Force Station Colombo beat Sri Lanka Air Force
Base Katunayaka by 17 runs this evening (16 December 2009)at the
inter-unit cricket championship finals held at the Rifle Green Sports
grounds, Colombo. Winning the toss, SLAF Colombo opted to bat first and
succeeded in scoring 167 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their
allotted 20 over’s. However, coming in to bat second SLAF Base
Katunayaka, managed to score only 150 as they ran short of wickets to
reach victory.
Mean while at the finals of the soft ball version of the game which was limited to 15 over’s a side was also played at the same venue this morning (16 December 2009). In this version of the game over 40 teams representing all SLAF establishments battled it out in the preliminary rounds of the championship. In today’s finals held between SLAF Base Anuradapura and SLAF Special Operation Group, Trincomalee the latter managed earn a comprehensive victory of seven wickets.
Batting first SLAF Base Anuradapura only managed to score 59 runs in 10.3 over’s for which the victorious team reach quite comfortably in 10.5 over’s with the loss of three wickets.
The Deputy Chief of Staff and Air Vice Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama graced the occasion as the chief guest whilst many other senior Officers were also present to witness the event.
