Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2014

The press briefing on the “ Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2014 ” was held at the Air Force Headquarters, Colombo this evening (10th March 2014) at the Air Force Headquarters auditorium. This year’s race will be conducted for the 15th consecutive year, coinciding with the 63rd Anniversary of the Sri Lanka Air Force.
This race is ranked at National level and conducted under the auspices of the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka. Over one hundred male and thirty female Sri Lankan ranking/other riders registered with the CFSL are expected to compete in this race. This year, for the first time in history, the race will cover the Northern Province and arrangements have been made to obtain the maximum participation of riders from the province as well.
The men's race will commence on 20 March 2014 from Colombo to finish at Dambulla (148 Km). On the following day the race will start at Dambulla and finish at Vavuniya (120.2 Km). On the third day the race will start at Vavuniya to finish at Jaffna (141 Km). In addition to the men’s race a women’s race is scheduled to be conducted on 22 March 2014 from Jaffna - Duraiappa Grounds to finish at point Pedro (82.1 Km).
In keeping with the race’s objective of promoting the sport of cycling in the Northern Province, a special presentation of three racing bicycles were handed over to the Chairman, Jaffna Cycling Federation Mr V Kailanathan by the Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala during the press briefing.
The main sponsor of the race is Abans Group of Companies and the electronic media partner is SLRC (Channel Eye). During the press briefing, Mr. Buddhika Dharmawardena, Deputy Director, Abans, handed over the sponsorship cheque to the Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal GP Bulathsinghala.
